    Secret Ambition
    Inspired by Hedwig Lamar

    Lights, war fights, cameras, communications
Films and fame for this dame
But what does it mean to have fame
    Does it bring happiness?
I guess that would depend on what you are famous for
Maybe the moments that define you most are not the ones you are as famous for but have the most lasting effect
Not only are you far from ordinary, but quite extraordinary
Beauty, talent, and intelligence almost equal
    A gem on screen
More than a lifesaver off screen

You seem mysterious in ways with a variety of partners

But maybe an indication of never settling reaching for more or something else

I know my mother would know much more of you
Being the extreme old movie buff she is
This may be the first time I have been introduced to your name
But not the first time I have seen you
I can tell you were more than an impactful and whimsical woman
    Call it a gut connection

Maybe one day I will strive to be more like you with secret ambition and more than one type of recognition

Jennifer, I love the way you inquire into your subject, reflecting on yourself--this phrase especially, so simple yet full:  "You seem mysterious..."  -- "a gut connection," indeed :)

The jaunty rhyme of this line totally enacts the unapologetic boldness of your poem's subject:  "Films and fame for this dame"

(Heads-up:  Bummer, I just noticed online that the source I used misspelled her last name: it's "Lamarr"-- I shoulda fact-checked!)

Thank you for posting y your poem here!

Not sure if this is the right place for this:
Many times I glance at poems and skim. Not the right approach I know. You first four lines drew me in--especially the second two. We share a curiosity, and I enjoyed this exploration.

Thank you both the insight on this piece. I did not catch that with her last name when I was researching and thank you for letting me know! I enjoyed researching her, talking to my mom about Hedy, and writing about her. I hope I did her justice in some small way.
