Our member authors will briefly discuss the process of writing and publishing their book.
10:00 am - 11:15 am Great (Reader) Expectations: The Key to Publishing's New Golden Age
with Clare Toohey (bio at bottom of day's schedule)
Mystery genre workshop that will cover:
- What ARE crime, mystery, and suspense genres? How many subgenres are there, and why do they matter to authors, agents/editors, and readers? How do you find yours?
- Who’s publishing book-length works? How should author expectations vary for each?
- Who’s publishing short crime…and does it pay?
- Why is it CRITICAL to have beta readers in-genre? How do you find these essential readers?
11:15 am - 12:30 pm Pitch Perfect: Perspectives on the Current Publishing Industry
moderated by Rita Rosenkranz
A panel discussion with five publishing professionals, including agents, an editor and an author to lay out the current state of the publishing industry. They will discuss recent changes in the industry and how these changes affect writers, specifically what writers need to do to successfully pitch an agent and how, once a book is sold, they can do to help ensure a good publishing experience. The panel will also look at the merits and limitations of self-publishing. This discussion should help you in your one-on-one sessions with agents in the afternoon, as well as with any future outreach to agents. There will be time for audience questions.

Pitch your project to agents and publishers in a one-on-one setting. By appointment only. Link to online sign-up sheet will be emailed to registrants, along with an information packet listing the details and interests of each literary professional.
